Dragon Data Ltd

Dragon Data Ltd was founded in 1982 in Port Talbot, Wales, during the British home computer boom. Their flagship products, the Dragon 32 and later the Dragon 64, were based around the Motorola 6809E processor — the same powerful chip used in machines like the Tandy Color Computer. The Dragon 32 offered strong BASIC programming capabilities, robust expandability, and compatibility with many CoCo software titles, while the Dragon 64 added more RAM and advanced features.

Despite a solid design and a loyal user base, Dragon struggled against the marketing might of Sinclair and Commodore. Production issues, limited software support, and rapid market shifts caused financial trouble, and Dragon Data entered receivership in 1984. The brand lived on briefly under new owners, but by the mid-1980s, it had largely faded from the mainstream. Today, the Dragon remains beloved among retro computing enthusiasts for its rugged design and unique place in the British micro boom.
