Born in New York City, Georgina Bloomberg grew up with a love for animals. She began riding at age four and amassed a stellar record in the junior hunter and jumper rings, earning grand championships and ‘Best Child Rider’ titles at every major competition on the U.S. East Coast. As a young rider, Georgina earned four medals in her three appearances at the North American Young Riders’ Championships including team gold in 2002 and individual gold in 2003. In 2004, she was honored with the Maxine Beard Show Jumping Developing Rider Award, presented by the United States Equestrian Team Foundation.
Moving onto the international stage, Georgina made her first World Cup Final appearance in 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. It was a feat she would repeat in 2019 when she again contested the annual indoor championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, riding Chameur 137.
Georgina also made her Nations’ Cup debut in 2005 riding in the Samsung Super League Nations’ Cup in La Baule, France, where she was a member of the all-female winning team. She has continued to be a consistent contender at the grand prix level, winning events such as the $210,000 Central Park Grand Prix in New York in 2014 and the $127,000 Adequan Grand Prix in Wellington, Florida, the following year.
In 2014, Georgina anchored the U.S. team with double-clear rounds for its win in the 2014 Furusiyya Nations Cup in Gijon, Spain. In her major games debut, Georgina helped the U.S. claim the team bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
When the innovative Global Champions League team competition debuted within the Global Champions Tour in 2016, Georgina signed on as both team owner and rider. As the owner of the New York Empire, she competes alongside Scott Brash (GBR), Denis Lynch (IRL), Spencer Smith (USA), and successful Under 25 rider, Jodie Hall McAteer (GBR). Joining them as a new addition to the team for the 2023 season is Frank Schuttert (NED).
Known for her dedication to philanthropy, Georgina founded the The Riders Closet in 2006. The organization helps make riding clothing accessible to those in Pony Clubs, therapeutic riding programs, intercollegiate riding programs, and individual riders in need. She also is a fervent advocate for animal rescue; she has multiple rescue dogs of her own and was awarded the 2016 Compassion in Action Award from The Humane Society of the United States. Georgina’s sport horses share her North Salem, NY, farm with retired horses (including a former New York City carriage horse), her rescue dogs, and other rescued animals such as goats, rabbits, miniature horses, mules, and her endearing pig, Wilbur.
In 2010, Georgina graduated from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a BA in Individualized Studies with a concentration in Sports Business and Marketing and Studio Arts. She also studied at Parsons Fashion Design College in 2012. In 2011, she co-authored The A Circuit, a young adult novel set in the horse show world. Three more books followed in the series.
Georgina is a proud mother to her son, Jasper, born in December of 2013. Already following in his mother’s footsteps, Jasper currently competes in the pony ring.
